![]() ![]() ![]() Competitively viable but also fun for casuals. And yeah, the multiplayer! Mainly some quality boomer shooter arena shooter stuff, deathmatch and ctf and all that. For the single-player of course a mainly dark ambient soundtrack is the way to go, but for the multiplayer some industrial metal would probably fit better. I would LOVE for Trent Reznor and/or Aubrey Hodges to work on the soundtrack. ![]() But the strogg stuff doesn't have to be totally forgotten either, while not the main thing it can certainly have a presence. And of course there could be explicit references to the works of H.P. The level design would be dungeon-influenced, labyrinthe and interconnected and full of traps, maybe even light puzzles. While primarily a tone piece, environmental storytelling and such could quietly whisper lore (maybe even taking some influence fron like Dark Souls in that capacity, though its world building certainly doesn't have to be that intensive). As much as I love the new Doom games, I would like this game to be a little scarier and to take itself a bit more seriously. Heck I'd love some striking colored lighting a la Quake 64. Maybe even some Doom 3 and Quake 4 style horror. I also want it to be creepy, drawing on the horror elements not only of the original Quake but of the first two Doom games & Doom 64 (and even others like Dusk). I want its world to be surreal and abstract, full of rusted factories and brutal starbases and gothic castles and ancient cathedrals and unnatural caverns. For the single player, I'd have it draw primarily from the original Quake. Visually I'd say as much as I adore a low-poly aesthetic, its probably best in this case to go for more cutting edge albeit stylized graphics. And I'd definitely have rocket jumping and strafe jumping. Gameplay wise I'd have it be more streamlined, no sprinting or glory kills or upgrade trees. Personally, I'd want it to be a soft reboot of the series as well as a celebration of everything its been/done, not unlike Doom (2016) or Wolfenstein: The New Order (though I guess Quake Champions did try to do that). But in a world where you had total creative control, all the time and resources and people you could ask for, no one to answer to, and sales/reviews didn't matter, what would you do? That, or one of the other leading theories: A new Quake game that takes cues from the latest Doom releases. This isn't what you realistically think it would be, the realities of game development can be real tough and you aren't the sole intended audience. Maybe we're getting a multiplayer-only Doom? Could be. Though, saying that, it is odd that the job posting does ask for Doom experience so specifically. Since Doom Eternal was meant to be the last Doom in the current series, it seems unlikely that id Software is looking to reboot the series already. In case you want to read the full, beefy, job posting, you can do that here.
